Inside Flint Hills Group’s 10-Year Anniversary Celebration

Ten years ago, Flint Hills Group started with a simple idea: bring experienced software engineers together, keep the company lean and flexible, and put customers at the center of the development process.

This month, we had the opportunity to celebrate how far that idea has come.

Customers, current and former team members, community partners, and friends of Flint Hills Group joined us in person at Groover Labs and virtually to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. It was a chance to reconnect, reflect on the past decade, and recognize the people who helped turn FHG from an idea into the company it is today.

It was also a chance to look ahead because while a lot has changed during our first 10 years, the pace of change happening in software today may be greater than anything we have experienced before.

Ten Years Built Around Our Customers

Flint Hills Group was founded following major technology layoffs in Wichita and Boulder. A group of highly experienced engineers suddenly found themselves looking for what came next, and FHG was created in part to help put that talent back to work on meaningful projects for real businesses.

From the beginning, we chose a different model.

We operated virtually before remote work became common. Instead of investing heavily in offices and overhead, we invested in experienced people, strong processes, and direct communication with customers. We also put software engineers directly in front of customers so they could better understand the business problems behind the software they were building.

That customer-focused approach has remained at the center of Flint Hills Group ever since.

Over the past 10 years, FHG has delivered more than 120 software solutions for more than 80 customers across industries including petroleum and pipelines, agriculture, healthcare, community banking, transportation, and more.

Some of those relationships go all the way back to the beginning. Our first customer, GT Midwest, is still a customer today. Our work together began with helping the company move technology to the cloud. A decade later, we are helping rebuild important ERP systems.

Technology changed. The relationship remained.

From the Cloud to AI

Looking back at our first decade also highlighted just how much the technology landscape has changed.

When FHG started, cloud computing was transforming how companies built, hosted, and delivered software. It helped make our own distributed business model possible and created new opportunities for our customers.

Then came blockchain, a technology surrounded by enormous hype. We spent time understanding it but made a deliberate choice not to chase new technology simply because it was popular.

Today, we are in the middle of another major shift: artificial intelligence.

AI is already changing how software is designed, developed, tested, and maintained. AI-assisted development tools can help experienced developers write code faster, analyze existing systems, identify problems, and accelerate work that previously required significant manual effort.

For businesses considering a new software system or trying to modernize a legacy application, that could have a meaningful impact on both development timelines and costs.

But the opportunity goes beyond writing code faster.

Businesses are now asking new questions. Where can AI automate repetitive work? How can employees access information faster? Which manual processes could become smarter workflows? Could software that once seemed too expensive or complicated suddenly make sense?

Those are becoming increasingly important conversations for the organizations we work with.

That is why Flint Hills Group has joined the Claude Partner Network and is actively training our team in AI-assisted software development with Claude Code.

At the same time, our philosophy has not changed. AI is a tool, not a requirement. Our job is still to understand each customer’s business problem first and recommend the technology that makes the most sense.

Celebrating the People Behind FHG

One of the best parts of our anniversary celebration was hearing from the people who have been part of Flint Hills Group’s story.

Current and former team members shared what the company has meant to them, while customers spoke about their experiences working with FHG and the impact software has had on their businesses.

Those stories were a reminder that the last 10 years are about much more than applications, programming languages, or technology trends.

They are about relationships.

Every software system represents a customer who trusted us with an important part of their business. Every project required customers and developers to work together to solve real problems. And every long-term partnership represents trust that has been earned one project at a time.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us at Groover Labs or virtually, and to everyone who has worked with Flint Hills Group during our first decade.

Looking Ahead to the Next 10 Years

It is difficult to predict exactly what software development will look like 10 years from now.

Cloud computing changed how software was delivered. AI is beginning to change both how software is created and what software itself can do.

What will not change is our focus on helping customers solve real business problems with technology.

Ten years, more than 80 customers, and more than 120 software solutions later, that remains the foundation of Flint Hills Group.

Thank you to our customers, employees, contractors, partners, and community for being part of our first 10 years.

We are excited to see what we build together in the next 10.
