The Challenge
Transform and upgrade two pre-existing Android applications into iOS versions and create a customized application for oil and gas pipeline testing.
Since 1982, JM Test Systems, Inc. has provided quality and expedient service to industries that need repair and N.I.S.T traceable calibration of test and measurement equipment. In 2018, JM Test Systems purchased Vaetrix, a company known for its high accuracy digital pressure gauges. The joint venture between these two companies provided JM Test Systems the opportunity to strengthen the Vaetrix portfolio of products by designing and developing new products. To compete with new markets, the Vaetrix line of gauges needed to have updated and fully functioning digital applications.
The Problem
The Vaetrix gauge line of products had two pre-existing Android apps that never fully functioned. One app provided a real-time pressure monitoring solution, while the other app managed and uploaded the data file from a phone or tablet. In order to work with clients who had iOS devices, JM Test needed to have these apps recreated for iOS. These apps also needed to be both functional and include additional cutting-edge features for the user.
The Process
After an in-depth onboarding meeting and introduction phase with the JM Test and Vaetrix teams, the Flint Hills Group identified the programming needs for this project. Two phases were developed in order to hit all milestones. Phase 1 was the rewriting and perfecting of two pre-existing Android applications, Data Director and Remote Gauge into iOS applications. Phase 2 would be to create a completely new iOS app, Stealth, that would run a specific set of functions before saving the results into a cloud-based web client.
For this project, Flint Hills Group provided their US-based software development team consisting of an experienced project manager, iOS developer, and software tester. The team had a combined experience level of over 85 years and experience with the LTE Bluetooth mobile apps.
The Result
Flint Hills Group worked closely with the JM Test team to recreate their applications for iOS. All apps were successfully produced and performed all of the required functionality. The Phase 2 app, Stealth, was a custom solution for one of JM Test’s clients that performed exactly as requested. The Stealth app helped the company with time management and operational costs. They were able to use the Stealth app to document their pipeline metrics versus manually inputting the data via an analog truck at the worksite.
Before working with us, JM Test only had Android apps that were not fully operational. Now, they have three iOS applications that provide customers using their gauges the ability to monitor, track, and upload data from the comfort of their phones or tablets instead of manually having to access the gauges for the data.

On time and on budget execution
“The weekly meetings we had with the Flint Hills team kept us on track, and our applications were developed under the estimated timeframe and budget. It was great to work with a US-based app development team that understands industrial applications and went out of their way to meet our specific requirements.”
